Falling-in-love Chair

Designed for the Festwochen Vienna Theatre Festival, this interactive seating installation serves as both a resting place for the audience and a catalyst for social interaction. Crafted from an upcycled wooden A-frame ladder, the original steps have been removed and replaced with a continuous red woven net. The net connects at the apex and cascades down both sides like twin waterfalls, forming concave, hammock-like seats.

There is always tension in a relationship—a constant dynamic of give and take. When two people sit on opposite sides, they are physically linked by the net. Unlike a traditional seesaw where gravity and weight dictate who goes up and who goes down, the space in this chair is negotiable. If one person leans back and takes up more space, the other is left with less, requiring communication and physical coordination to maintain balance. If one person suddenly stands up, the other experiences a sudden drop into the resulting slack, yet remains safely caught by the net. It is a physical manifestation of interpersonal reliance, negotiation, and the sudden shift of balance when someone leaves.

Festwochenウィーン演劇祭の会場のためにデザインされた、観客に休息を提供しつつ交流を促すインタラクティブな座席のプロジェクトです。古い木製の脚立を再利用し、両側のステップを取り外して、頂点から繋がる赤い網を編み込みました。網は二つの滝のように両側へ流れ落ち、内側に窪んだハンモックのような座面を形成しています。

人間関係には常に緊張感が伴います。絶え間ない「与えること（Give）」と「受け取ること（Take）」の連続です。二人が両側に座ると、そこにはシーソーのような物理的な引っ張り合いが生じます。しかし、体重で上下が決まる通常のシーソーとは異なり、この椅子の空間は「交渉可能（Negotiable）」です。一方が空間を広く取ればもう一方は狭くなるため、バランスを保つにはお互いのコミュニケーションが不可欠です。もし一人が突然立ち去ると、残されたもう一人は急に緩んだ網によって少し下へと落ち込みますが、それでも安全に支えられます。関係性における依存、バランスの調整、そして喪失による突然の落下を、身体感覚として体験できる作品です。

这组为Festwochen维也纳戏剧节场地设计的互动座椅，旨在为观众提供休息空间的同时促进人际交流。作品由一把旧木梯改造而成，原本的阶梯被拆除，取而代之的是一张从顶部相连、如两道红色瀑布般垂下的编织网，在梯子两侧形成向内凹陷的座位。

亲密关系中总是充满了张力——不断地付出与索取（Give and Take）。当两个人分别坐在梯子两侧时，便进入了一种微妙的物理拉扯。与由体重绝对主导的传统跷跷板不同，这把椅子上的空间是“可协商”的。一方占据的网面空间多，另一方自然就少，双方必须通过交流与试探来维持一种动态的平衡。而当其中一人突然起身离开时，另一人会因为网面瞬间松弛而经历一次突然的“下坠”，但依然会被这层网安全地托底。这件作品将人际交往中的依赖、失衡与安全感，转化为了身体的直接体验。
